A Guide to Utah's Five Most Commonly Used Business Organizations
This information applies to all entities except DBAs.
Name Reservations are not business registrations. They simply reserve a business name for a period of 120 days until you are ready to file your business entity.
It is not required to file a Name Reservation prior to filing your business entity. If your formation documents are ready to file, simply file them by following the instructions on How to Register a Business. Do not file a Name Reservation prior to or in conjunction with the business entity filing.
Here are the steps for submitting a name reservation:
- Log into businessregistration.utah.gov using your UtahID. If you do not have an account, you will be directed to create one.
- Once you successfully log in, you will be taken to your Dashboard.
- From the dashboard, click “Other” from the menu on the left and choose the applicable name reservation type (Domestic or Foreign).
